With Deadline Approaching, Cahill Makes State Tax Forms and Booklets Available At Kingston Office
Forms and Instructions Can Be Picked Up or Mailed
April 2, 2012

Kingston, NY – With the deadline for filing tax returns just over two weeks away (April 17), Assemblymember Kevin Cahill (D-Ulster, Dutchess) reminded residents that forms and instructions are available through his Kingston district office, located at One Albany Avenue, Suite G-4 in the Governor Clinton building. In an effort to save money and produce less paper, the New York State Tax Department is no longer sending forms directly to individuals.

“While I understand the need to save money, we have to avoid creating a situation that makes it difficult for citizens to meet their tax obligations,” said Assemblymember Cahill. “In an effort to make things easier for people that may not have the wherewithal to access the documents online, forms are available though my district office to anyone that may need them.”

The Assemblymember’s district office has the following documents:

  • IT-2 and Instructions (W-2 form)
  • IT-201 and Instructions
  • IT-203 and Instructions (for non-residents and part-time residents)
  • IT-201-ATT
  • IT-370 Extension request
  • IT-2105 Estimated tax
  • IT-2105 Instructions

Additionally, Assemblymember Cahill was successful in his efforts to include a provision in the state budget, passed last week, that places a one year moratorium on fees charged to those that submit income tax returns through the mail instead of electronically. The penalties were part of existing law as New York State transitions to electronic filing. The change applies retroactively to those who may have already submitted their return this year. The measure gives the Tax Department the time necessary to develop orderly regulations.

“This would have forced taxpayers who, for whatever reason, had to submit paper filings to jump through unnecessary hoops instead of incentivizing them to e-file, as the law intended,” said Assemblymember Cahill. “New Yorkers deserve a logical, comprehensible tax code. As written, this law is simply bad public policy and needs to be revisited.”

The Governor Clinton building is located at the intersection of Albany Avenue, Clinton Avenue and Pearl Street in uptown Kingston. Suite G-4 is on the ground floor of the far-left entrance, making it easy for seniors to stop in. The office staff is ready to mail forms to individuals who request this service via phone or email. Call the District Office at 845-338-9610 or send an e-mail to cahillk@assembly.state.ny.us.

Forms ordered directly from the State Department of Taxation and Finance take two weeks to be mailed. However, they can be downloaded online at www.tax.ny.gov. If you have a hearing or speech impairment and have access to a TTY text telephone, order by calling 518-485-5082.
