Kingston – Assemblymember Kevin A. Cahill (D-Ulster, Dutchess) informed residents of Ulster County today that the Federal Emergency Management Agency is opening a Disaster Recovery Center at the Hudson River Maritime Museum at 50 Rondout Landing in Kingston. The Center will be open for just one week, from December 4-7th from 10AM to 5PM daily.
“While the mid-Hudson region was able to avoid the harshest effects of Hurricane Sandy, there are still hundreds of citizens with flooded homes and basements, destroyed property, or tree damage,” said Assemblymember Cahill. “Power lines and roads have been restored, but for so many folks the recovery effort is still ongoing.”
Both homeowners and business owners can take advantage of the Disaster Recovery Center and the opportunity to meet with FEMA and Small Business Administration representatives to speak one-on-one about their unique needs in the wake of Hurricane Sandy. This service can and should be utilized even if the resident has already visited registration centers that were open last weekend in Kingston and Saugerties.
“Ulster County has recently been declared a disaster area by FEMA, thereby making individuals eligible for federal assistance. If you are an individual who was initially denied disaster assistance because of this, please re-apply in order to qualify,” said Assemblymember Cahill.
Homeowners are encouraged to apply for assistance by calling FEMA at 1-800-621-3362, registering online at www.DisasterAssistance.gov or by stopping into the DRC.
