Albany, NY Assemblymember Kevin Cahill (D Ulster, Dutchess) announced today his commitment to adding a recreational trail to the already successful Catskill Mountain Rail Road corridor. Once complete, the Catskill Mountain Rail Trail would stretch for 38 miles from the City of Kingston, along the Ashokan Reservoir to the Delaware County line.
The amazing work of volunteers over a couple of generations cannot be overstated. They revived a railroad using donated materials and volunteer labor. This appropriation of $2 million on top of the $1 million I previously secured can go a long way toward making the dream of many to develop a rail with trail corridor a reality, Cahill said.
"I would like to thank Assemblymember Cahill for securing the funding for this important project. I look forward to the public discussion that will soon take place. I'm confident that locals will love the final Catskill Mountain Rail Trail on the former Ulster-Delaware Railroad and that tourists will flock to it as a great way to enjoy all that the Hudson Valley has to offer," said Ulster County Legislator Robert Parete.
I was successful in advocating for the inclusion of a public comment period which will assure that reasonable voices will prevail, said Cahill of the requirement that a public planning process be held before state funds can be paid out. I look forward to the eventual completion of this recreational resource which will benefit locals and tourists alike.
