Assemblymember Cahill Helps Facilitate Preliminary DEC Approval of Williams Lake Project
May 17, 2013

Kingston, New York – Assemblymember Kevin Cahill (D - Ulster, Dutchess) announced yesterday that the Williams Lake Project in Rosendale has met a crucial Department of Environmental Conservation requirement and that their Environmental Impact Statement has been accepted. Cahill has been instrumental in guiding the local economic development project through the Department of Environmental Conservation’s review process while insisting that it adhere to the highest environmental standards.

“I’m pleased that I helped guide this development though what can sometimes be a complicated process. Now that the State Environmental Quality Review process has begun this project has a chance of beginning in the spring of 2014. This environmentally responsible resort will coexist with the lake’s natural beauty, has the potential to attract tourism dollars from miles around, and could bring a total of 300 new jobs to the area. The developers are well aware that the success of this resort rests on its’ ability to be good stewards of the lake’s flora and fauna and that these natural resources will keep families coming back annually. This facility is a win-win for the lake’s biodiversity and the region’s economic health,” said Cahill.

“After five years of good-faith collaboration with all parties involved, we are very pleased to be able to look to the future and begin planning events. The environmental review process is thorough, complex, and can sometimes throw up unexpected road blocks. Though it took longer than we had hoped, we believe that with the help of those like Assemblymember Cahill we made it through the process more quickly than we could have on our own,” said Project Manager Tim Allred.

“Kevin has been very supportive in shepherding this project through the DEC’s process from day one. The Assemblyman strongly believes in the SEQR process and has arranged multiple meetings between ourselves and the Department of Environmental Conservation’s Region Three administration to ensure that this project exceeds the requirements demanded of it so it may move along quickly. We appreciate all that Assemblymember Cahill has done on this issue,” said Community Outreach Coordinator Brian Cafferty.
