Countdown to School
August 13, 2013

Kingston, New York – The Office of Assemblymember Kevin A. Cahill (D-Ulster, Dutchess) is collecting back to school supplies to benefit Ulster Community Action, an outstanding agency located in the 103rd Assembly District. We will be collecting pens, pencils, erasers, rulers, scissors, 2” binders, composition books, loose-leaf paper, crayons, markers, highlighters, pencil sharpeners, and calculators.

“Throughout my tenure in the Assembly, I have pushed for equal education opportunities for all children. We can’t expect students to succeed when they don’t have access to the basic tools necessary to complete assignments. As you begin your back to school shopping, please consider purchasing duplicate items for our collection,” said Assemblymember Cahill.

School supplies will be collected continuously beginning Monday, August 12th, 2013 through Friday, September 6th from 9:00AM to 5:00PM in Assemblymember Cahill’s District Office located in the Governor Clinton Building at 1 Albany Avenue, Suite G-4, Kingston, NY 12401. The office will stay open until 7:00PM on Thursday, September 5th for an after hours drop. Assemblymember Cahill urges local businesses, schools and residents to participate.

“Ulster County Community Action Committee provides backpacks filled with school supplies for children grades K-6th. These children also receive healthy snacks for the weekends and long school breaks for the entire school year. Our Backpack/Snackpack program is 100% funded by local donations. It is with the support from our community we are able to provide this Program to our children in Ulster County! When a community comes together for a cause, a powerful transaction occurs – CHANGE. Imagine communities coming together to help provide food to children who might be going without. It could be the boy next door or your child’s friend at school. A child in your town or community is going to bed hungry each night. Imagine making a difference in the lives of children in need in your community. Imagine your community coming together to make a change. The Program is one of the most important programs we have here at our Agency. We strongly believe that together with our community we can help fight childhood hunger,” says Suzanne Hinchey, Ulster County Community Action.

“Over the years my office has relied on agencies like Ulster Community Action to direct constituents towards the help they need. I am thrilled to be able to collaborate on this worthy endeavor,” said Assemblymember Cahill.

For questions regarding the drop off of supplies, please call the Kingston office at 845-338-9610.
