Assemblyman Marc Butler (R,C,I-Newport) has again been named ranking minority member of the New York State Assembly’s Economic Development, Job Creation, Commerce and Industry Committee.
In addition, Butler was named to the Assembly’s Insurance Committee by Assembly Minority Leader James Tedisco (R,C,I-Schenectady-Saratoga). Butler retains his committee assignments on the Higher Education and Agriculture Committees.
The Economic Development Committee considers state legislation intended to stimulate business activity, encourage technological innovations and create new jobs.
In the legislature, committee assignments lead to broader expertise in the specific committee areas. For example, Butler, in his capacity as ranking minority member on Economic Development, participated last fall in a seminar in Washington D.C. on competing in the emerging global economy.
“My committee assignments for the coming year are tailor made for both my district and for my background,” Butler said. “I am particularly excited about my newest assignment to the Insurance Committee. I believe my professional background will be an asset to the committee in its deliberations.”
Butler worked for ten years in the Corporate Communications Department of the Utica National Insurance Group, New Hartford, NY. During that period he wrote on insurance issues for company periodicals and interacted with state and national insurance executives.
The Insurance Company holds a pivotal role in the insurance regulatory process.
“Job creation and agricultural issues are vital to our region, and we are blessed to have two fine institutions of higher learning in the 117th District – Herkimer County Community College and Fulton-Montgomery County Community College,” Butler concluded. “The Higher Education Committee also makes decisions on issues such as professional licensure.”
