A Strong Message Delivered by the Governor
January 5, 2006

Gov. George Pataki sent a strong message to all New Yorkers in his 12th annual and final “State of the State” address and Assemblyman Marc Butler applauded him on the agenda he set forth because it shows tremendous leadership. He promised property tax reform, passage of civil confinement legislation as well as Megan’s Law enhancements, an accelerated Empire Zone process, tax credits for heating fuel, income tax cuts, eliminations of the estate tax and marriage penalty, and initiatives to help businesses contain costs.

“The governor outlined his agenda in very strong terms. I look forward to working with him in the upcoming session as the details of his agenda are fleshed out,” said Butler.

Butler said he was particularly pleased with the governor’s focus on property taxes, economic development and energy issues. All issues of strong concern to his constituents.

Since the governor has taken office taxes in the state have been reduced and job-killing regulations have been rolled back, “but as the governor said, more work needs to be done in the coming session,” Butler stated.

“This is going to be an exciting year in Albany, with many pieces of crucial legislation to be debated and voted on,” Butler concluded. “And after hearing Governor Pataki’s speech, I am confident that the 2006 Legislative Session will be one of the most productive in New York’s history.”
