Butler Supports Medicare Part D Deadline Extension
January 30, 2006
Assemblyman Marc W. Butler (R,C,I-Newport) and his Assembly colleagues today passed a resolution that asks Congress to extend the deadline for seniors to enroll in Medicare Part D, without penalty, from May 15 to October 15.
“Seniors who enroll in Medicare Part D after May 15 face a cumulative penalty of 1 percent per month, and this penalty would be applied to their monthly fee for the rest of their lives,” said Butler. “I have spoken to many senior citizens who have had questions and concerns about choosing from among the 46 options this program offers. By extending the deadline, seniors will have more time to make an informed decision on which prescription drug plan is right for them.”
The resolution will be sent to President Bush, Speaker Hastert and New York’s congressional delegation.
