Majority Property Tax Plan Gives Too Little Relief, Too Late
Minority plan will save New Yorkers billions
March 13, 2006

Assemblyman Marc Butler (R,C,I-Newport) today joined his minority colleagues in calling on Assembly Speaker Sheldon Silver and his conference to support Restore New York and its tax cutting proposals.

“The majority’s budget plan would fail to provide working families of Fulton, Herkimer, and Otsego counties with the tax relief they so desperately need,” said Butler. “It’s imperative that Speaker Silver understand the key to getting the relief the people of this state deserve is in Restore New York.”

Crucial to Restore New York is its proposal to reduce the property tax burden on homeowners and businesses. Included in the package is $1.75 billion in additional tax relief through the STAR program, reforming Medicaid to eliminate the $4.5 billion in annual waste and fraud and creating incentives to help local governments become more efficient.

“It is unfortunate that the Assembly majority has waited this long to unveil any sort of tax relief plan, especially one that comes up short,” concluded Butler. “We believe the time has clearly come to bring relief to our residents.”
