Butler: Food Stamp Program For Flood Victims
Assemblyman encourages affected residents to take advantage of DBFSP
July 12, 2006

Assemblyman Marc Butler (R,C,I-Newport) today announced the Office of Temporary and Disability Assistance (OTDA) has secured approval from the U.S. Department of Agriculture to operate a Disaster Benefits Food Stamp Program (DBFSP) in counties affected by recent flooding.

The program continues through Friday, July 14 in the following federally declared disaster counties: Broome, Chenango, Delaware, Herkimer, Montgomery, Oneida, Orange, Otsego, Schoharie, Sullivan, Tioga and Ulster.

“Central New York was an area hit especially hard in the recent flooding disaster,” said Butler. “I am glad the OTDA was able to secure this program for the declared disaster counties and those residents who may be in need of some assistance. I encourage those affected by the flooding disaster to make use of this program.”

Residents and households that may not have qualified to receive food stamps will be provided these benefits through the DBFSP.

More program information is available by contacting Cathy Roberts at (518) 436-8757, ext. 12, or e-mailing hungerfoodstamps@aol.com. The Western New York Law Center has posted the implementation memo, the DBFSP application form and eligibility desk guide on its Web site at www.wnylc.net.
