Butler’s Business-Friendly Bill is Shot Down by Assembly Majority
Statement by Assemblyman Marc Butler
April 16, 2008
One of the bills that I sponsored this year was A.6333, which would have enacted the New York State Production Promotion Act. The purpose of this bill was to create an Internet registry to highlight businesses that manufacture or produce products in New York state. This bill would have showcased New York businesses in hopes of creating a wider consumer base.
Our economic future is looking dim and this was my way of helping our local businesses get through these hard times. The Assembly Majority did not agree and voted to hold the bill in committee. I was hoping that the economic downturn would help the two sides of the Assembly work together toward a common goal of helping New Yorkers, but this was not the case. The only way we can reignite the state’s economic engine is by enacting policies that promote business growth. I hope that my colleagues on the other side of the aisle will eventually come to that realization and focus on implementing business-friendly initiatives.
