Assemblyman Marc W. Butler (R,I,C-Newport) today joined his colleagues in both the New York State Senate and Assembly as well as almost 300 truck drivers at a rally on the steps of the Capitol in support of New York’s trucking industry.
"It is time that we pass meaningful legislation that will bring relief to the trucking industry and to all New Yorkers. The bills that my Minority colleagues and I are sponsoring to bring this relief are being held by our Majority counterparts and, therefore, are unable to reach the Assembly floor to be voted on," said Butler.
Rally attendees called for an elimination of the Mile Ton Tax as well as the reduction of Thruway tolls. They were also in support of eliminating the sales tax on gasoline, at least until Labor Day, which would save almost $6 million.
"I am calling on the entire Assembly to join the Assembly Minority Conference in support of our legislation, which will bring relief to the hardworking individuals in the trucking industry," concluded Butler.
