Outdoor Wood Boiler Regulations Should Be Left to Localities

Statement by Assemblyman Marc W. Butler (R,I,C Newport)

Last night, the Department of Environmental Conservation held a public information session to discuss their proposed regulation changes, which would limit the usage of outdoor wood boilers in New York state. If enacted, these proposed changes would unfairly impact upstate rural New Yorkers who are already over-taxed and over-regulated by the state. While I will concede that these restrictions may be warranted in some cases, such as in more populated areas, I believe that regulations of this nature should be deferred to the local municipalities most qualified to make decisions affecting their communities.
