Butler on the Executive Budget Proposal
Statement on Governor Cuomo’s Budget Proposal from Assemblyman Marc W. Butler (R,C,I-Newport)
January 17, 2012
“The Executive Budget is just a starting point of the larger budget process, and I am eager to examine it closely in order to make sure there is a renewed balance between Upstate and downstate. It’s especially important for our students to be treated more fairly by the state school aid formula, and I’m not sure the governor’s proposal goes far enough to correct the inequitable manner in which it is distributed. I’m encouraged by Governor Cuomo’s inclusion of unfunded mandate relief and Medicaid reforms, but we need much more. I will fight to lift barriers to private-sector job growth – fees, fines, surcharges and costly regulations. All of these components are critical to keeping New York affordable for families and job creators.”
