The history of our great nation and its role in promoting democracy throughout the world is built on a firm foundation made from the sacrifices of our brave servicemen and women. On Memorial Day, we are reminded of the lives that have been sacrificed to protect the ideals of our nation – life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness.
President Ronald Reagan echoed these sentiments, saying, “Democracy is worth dying for, because it is the most deeply honorable form of government ever devised by man.”
As a beacon of democracy and freedom, the U.S. will always face challenges abroad and at home. On our free soil we can and must continue dialogues that protect our rights and our belief in self-determination.
Even when things seem dire, never lose hope in America, and strive to honor those who have given the greatest sacrifice – their lives – by fully engaging in the rights, freedoms and opportunities afforded in our great nation.
No matter how difficult things may seem, when faced by terror, storms and trying times, listen quietly for the beat of freedom that resonates deeply in this country and in every American. It is that very steady beat drawing immigrants to our shores, encouraging young men and women to defend our land and making this nation the greatest in the world.
All the freedoms, opportunities and blessings bestowed on us in this nation are worthy of sacrifice.
Thank you to all our veterans, past and present, and our fallen servicemen and women.
God bless our heroes. God bless America.
