Assemblyman Marc W. Butler (R,C,I-Newport) and Herkimer County Sheriff Christopher P. Farber discuss the significant negative impact Gov. Cuomo’s gun control law has on local communities.
“In my entire career, I’ve never seen a worse law imposed on our communities and citizens,” said Butler. “Gov. Cuomo’s gun control law has placed a great burden on our local officials and citizens; it has pushed the envelope in terms of infringing on our Second Amendment Rights and our privacy as law-abiding citizens. To make matters worse, the governor expects taxpayers to foot the bill, as it is going to cost our communities millions of dollars to implement his so called SAFE Act. I stand with many of our guests today asking for its repeal – Cuomo’s gun law has got to go.”
From Butler’s district, Sheriffs Christopher P. Farber of Herkimer County and Kevin Wells of St. Lawrence County testified before the Assembly panel. Also on hand was gun dealer Pete Crump, owner of Pete’s Guns. Officials from New York State’s Division of Criminal Justice Services, Department of Health and the directors of Public Health and Community Services were also invited to speak, but declined to attend.
Butler has been an outspoken opponent of the gun control law since the beginning, and has held several informational sessions throughout his district. He has met with nearly 1,000 constituents at these events, who have told him that they do not believe the law is keeping citizens safe; it infringes on their rights and costs too much.
Butler has recommended the full repeal of Gov. Cuomo’s gun control law and is sponsoring legislation to do so.
