Assemblyman Marc W. Butler (R,C,I-Newport) with Tyson, a rescued Dalmatian-turned therapy dog.
“Animals of all kinds play important roles in our lives, and New York’s laws and policies need to reflect this, which is why we hold events like Animal Advocacy Day in Albany,” said Butler. “We’re here to celebrate all animals, from police dogs to farm animals, to wildlife and domestic pets, and to craft better laws to protect them.”
Butler is a sponsor of “Ape’s Law,” which stiffens penalties for those who kill police dogs. The law is named after Ape, the FBI dog who was killed in the stand-off with Kurt Myers, who perpetrated the killing spree in Herkimer earlier this year.
Butler joined Laurie Maloney, owner of rescued Dalmatian Tyson. Maloney, who adopted the dog nearly two years ago, has trained him to be a therapy dog and takes him to visit nursing homes in New York State and Florida.
