With only a few days left to prepare taxes, Assemblyman Mark Johns (R,C-Webster) is reminding seniors about the free tax-preparation programs being offered by AARP. The free tax clinics are being offered at several senior centers and through the Empire Justice Center’s C.A.S.H. (Creating Assets, Savings and Hope) program in Rochester. Additionally, free federal and state income tax preparation and e-filing by many leading online tax-preparation companies is available to taxpayers with incomes of less than $57,000 per year. To check for availability, please visit www.tax.ny.gov.
"In addition to the financial pressures presented by taxes, the time and stress associated with tax preparation can take its toll on many taxpayers who cannot afford to pay for an accountant or a tax- preparation program," said Johns. "For those in need of assistance, guidance and financial advice, programs offered by AARP and the Empire Justice Center are helpful resources for seniors and struggling working families."
