Johns Announces State Police Drop Box Location For Unwanted Pharmaceuticals

September 6, 2012

Assemblyman Mark Johns (R,C-Webster) today announced that New York State is placing drop boxes at several State Police Troop Headquarters, including Troop E in nearby Canandaigua. Johns is the Ranking Minority Member on the Assembly’s Committee on Alcoholism and Drug Abuse.

“These pharmaceutical drop boxes give residents in our community the chance to safely discard unused and/or expired prescription and over-the-counter medications,” said Johns. “This program shows that New York State is working in a safe and environmentally-friendly manner to keep potentially harmful pharmaceuticals out of the hands of people who would misuse them, as well as our landfills and water supply.”

State Troopers often are faced with dangerous situations involving the abuse of prescription medications. More than 70 percent of abused medications are obtained from friends or relatives.

The medication drop box program is free and open to the public – and anyone can anonymously dispose of prescription medications, ointments, over-the-counter medications and inhalers. Hazardous materials and needles are not accepted. New York State Police Troop E is located at:
