Assemblyman Mark Johns (R,C,I-Webster) today announced that the New York State Health Department opened its hotline to help customers sign up for New York’s health care exchange. The “NY State of Health” program can be reached at (855) 355-5777 and is currently open Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.
“I am excited to announce the state Health Department has unveiled this hotline to help those who have questions about the health care exchange,” said Assemblyman Johns. “I have heard from several residents and businesses seeking answers and hope that this toll-free number can answer questions and eliminate confusion regarding the implementation of the affordable care act.”
The enrollment period begins on Tuesday, October 1, 2013 and runs through Monday, March 31, 2014. State health officials say the exchange will provide health insurance to at least one million uninsured New Yorkers and will also provide tax credits to individuals who earn less than $45,960 and families of four with incomes under $94,200. The exchanges are scheduled to open on Wednesday, January 1, 2014.
New York – which is receiving $370 million in federal aid – has been preparing for the launch of the exchanges. Trained representatives are now answering questions for residents and small businesses, which also are eligible to enroll.
Assemblyman Johns encourages those with questions about the health care exchange can call “NY State of Health” Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. at (855) 355-5777. Starting October 1, the hotline will expand its hours to Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. and Saturday from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. More information also can be found online at http://nystateofhealth.ny.gov.
