Biography

Assembly Member Micah Z. Kellner was first elected to the State Assembly in a special election on June 5, 2007 and has been reelected three more times. Since taking office, he has never stopped fighting for his friends and neighbors on Manhattan’s Upper East Side, Yorkville & Roosevelt Island.

Assembly Member Kellner has introduced legislation on a variety of issues, including public corruption, the environment, public health, law enforcement and animal rights. He has served as the lead plaintiff on a lawsuit to stop the East 91st Street Marine Transfer Station. Working with families, he has fought for more schools. Assembly Member Kellner fought to guarantee that police officers who contracted cancer after the 9/11 attacks receive insurance coverage. He successfully negotiated on behalf of New Yorkers to stop price gouging by big insurance companies. He believes that building the Second Avenue Subway will eventually make life easier for residents of the East Side, but fights vigilantly to ensure proper oversight by the City and the MTA for duration of the project.

Assembly Member Kellner is Chair of the Assembly Committee on Libraries and Education Technology. He sits on the following committees: Banks, Cities, Consumer Affairs and Protection, Racing & Wagering, Steering.
