Assemblyman Cusick and Elementary Students Participate in Valentine’s for Veterans Program
February 6, 2013

Assemblyman Michael Cusick (D-Mid-Island) along with students from local elementary schools are participating in the Valentine’s for Veterans program. The children have made a valentine or wrote a letter to a veteran currently at the US Veterans Medical Center in Fort Hamilton, Brooklyn. The Valentine’s Day greetings were delivered today to show appreciation to military service veterans.

“Valentines for Veterans is a simple, yet powerful gesture for children to show appreciation to veterans of our country during this season. Not only do the students learn and appreciate the sacrifices veterans have made, the veterans at the Medical Center are delighted to receive these valentines,” said Assemblyman Cusick.

Every February, Americans show their gratitude to hospitalized veterans by sending valentines cards and letters to Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) medical centers across the country in conjunction with National Salute to Hospitalized Veterans Week.

Cusick, who has been a member of the State Assembly Committee on Veterans’ Affairs and who sponsors a number of veteran related pieces of legislation, has also created the Staten Island VETS discount program in conjunction with the Chamber of Commerce. Under the program, local businesses offer a discount to veterans who live in Richmond County as a token of appreciation for service to our country.
