Social Security Information
December 16, 2009
In these challenging economic times when every dollar counts, Social Security touches the lives of everyone who lives and works in the United States. Today, more than 51 million Americans receive a monthly cash benefit from Social Security. With 80 million baby boomers reaching retirement age over the next 20 years, it is important that we work together to ensure timely access to our programs and benefits for our vulnerable neighbors.
Social Security and Supplemental Security Income provide monthly cash benefits to retirees, people with disabilities and their family members. The Extra Help program helps people with Medicare – seniors and people with disabilities – with the cost of their prescription drugs under the Medicare Prescription Drug program. And, new rules take effect during January 2010 which will make it easier for more people with Medicare to qualify for Extra Help!
