Assemblyman Michael Montesano (R, I, C – Glen Head) voted against the Board of Regents nominees, citing a hyper-partisan process and the clear conflicts of interest for one of the two members re-elected today. Betty Rosa, Ed.D., heads a firm that provides services to school districts in this state.
“The Board of Regents serves a vital role in charting the course for our children’s education, and the selection of its members must be taken seriously,” said Montesano. “Both parties need to have a voice in order to ensure that the board advocates what is best for our children, and not for special interest groups.
“One of the members selected, Dr. Rosa, has a clear conflict of interest that should keep her off the board. Her financial livelihood relies on selling services to schools. To make the claim that this individual has our children’s best interests at heart is disingenuous at best.
“The process in selecting the Board of Regents is a sham. New Yorkers deserve better than this from their elected officials and those claiming to speak for the interests of our state’s schoolchildren.”
