Montesano Calls On Federal Trade Commission To Investigate Changes To Glen Cove Hospital
August 28, 2013
Assemblyman Michael Montesano (R,I,C-Glen Head) has petitioned the U.S. Federal Trade Commission’s (FTC) Bureau of Competition – Healthcare Services to investigate the North Shore LIJ’s recently announced changes to the Glen Cove Hospital. These changes would cost 1,200 employees of the hospital their jobs and have a detrimental effect upon the 50,000+ community members who rely on the essential services provided there. In his letter to the FTC, Montesano cited the monopolistic practices of North Shore LIJ in building a conglomerate that effectively oversees all aspects of health care in Nassau County.
“North Shore LIJ’s practices are having a significant negative impact on our local hospitals, remaining medical practices and surrounding communities, and it needs to stop,” said Montesano. “Between muscling out competing practices and their recent changes to Glen Cove Hospital, North Shore LIJ is engaging in practices that are not only costing good people their jobs, but putting the physical wellness of our residents in jeopardy. I am calling on the Federal Trade Commission to investigate this matter immediately.”
