Great Neck, NY-Assemblywoman Michelle Schimel and her District Office staff volunteered on August 4 at Island Harvestís Summer Food Blitz, to help sort and package 300,000 pounds of food and household supplies donated to Long Island food agencies.

The event marked the hunger relief organizationís second Summer Food Blitz, which distributed products to over 100 local food agencies and delivered the food to Long Islanders in need.

ďI am proud to help contribute to the community by aiding Island Harvest in its noble effort to fight hunger on Long Island,Ē said Assemblywomen Michelle Schimel.

The arduous lifting and packaging in Nassau Community Collegeís parking lot began early in the morning and extended into the afternoon. The 100 volunteers for the event included a diverse group of community members, students, corporate workers and even sports teams.

At the end of the day, food agencies each received over 1,000 pounds of products, including frozen chicken, pasta, soy milk, and household cleaning supplies.
