Assemblywoman Michelle Schimel Announces Storm Relief Rebate Program for New Yorkers

Great Neck – Assemblywoman Michelle Schimel is pleased to announce a storm relief rebate program that will help residents replace appliances damaged during Tropical Storm Irene and Tropical Storm Lee.

The storm relief rebate program funded through the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act (ARRA) and administered by the New York State Energy Research and Development Authority (NYSERDA). The program will allow New York residents to qualify for the following cash rebates when purchasing eligible ENERGY STAR or High Efficiency household appliances and equipment:

  • $2,500 for a boiler
  • $2,000 for a furnace
  • $400 for qualifying hot water heaters
  • Up to $350 for refrigerators
  • $250 for clothes washers and dryers
  • $100 for dehumidifier

In order to qualify for the rebate, applicants must confirm that the appliances are being replaced as a direct result of the recent storms. They must also confirm that the items are not covered by homeowner’s or renter’s insurance, or by the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) relief efforts. Purchases must be made on or after August 29, 2011 for residents affected by Tropical Storm Irene and on or after September 9, 2011 for those affected by Tropical Storm Lee.
