Great Neck, NY – Assemblywoman Michelle Schimel announced that Port Washington midday Long Island Rail Road trains will return to running every half hour on May 14.
“When the LIRR proposed these cuts in 2010 I expressed my outrage at the public hearings: I said to the MTA Chair ‘Never take the public for granted. If you don’t provide the service they count on, they will turn their backs,’” said Assemblywoman Schimel.
“My prediction came true--reducing the trains to once an hour resulted in a loss of 180,000 riders on this line which runs through the heart of my district. I hope that the restoration of seven eastbound and seven westbound trains will bring back the riders,” she added.
Riders should keep in mind that service at nights and on weekends will remain on an hourly schedule.
