"I was delighted to have Commissioner Towns join us on a tour of some of the wonderful affordable housing opportunities in the Town of North Hempstead. I was pleased that he recognized the high quality housing stock that we have in North Hempstead," said Assemblywoman Michelle Schimel.
The tour included visits to Denton Green, a Mitchell-Lama affordable housing facility for seniors in Garden City Park, Landmark on Main Street, a community center and low-income senior housing facility in Port Washington, Apex I, a senior housing facility in New Cassel, and the Town of North Hempstead's newly built New Cassel Community Center.
"I'm thankful to Commissioner Towns for taking time out of his busy schedule to visit the Westbury/New Cassel community and for taking a tour of the wonderful Apex I facility," said Assemblyman Charles Lavine. "The tour with Assemblywoman Schimel and Chairman Kimmel, who has worked diligently to improve the community, allowed the Housing Commissioner to see a true model of success that all future affordable housing projects should follow."
"Given Long Island's critical affordable housing needs, I was happy to share with Commissioner Towns North Hempstead's stock of moderate-income senior dwellings," said Supervisor Jon Kaiman. "The Town's quality affordable housing stock serves as a model that could be deployed to help address the region's vital need for shelter within the means of those who are financially locked out of the mainstream housing market," Supervisor Kaiman said.
