Assemblywoman Malliotakis Named Rising Latino Star
Hispanic Coalition of New York tabs Malliotakis for list of up-and-comers
February 8, 2012

Assemblywoman Nicole Malliotakis (R,C-Brooklyn, Staten Island) has been named to The Hispanic Coalition of New York (HCNY)’s 40 Under 40 Rising Latino Stars. Each year, HCNY compiles a list to identify the next generation of political leaders in New York, and recognize the honorees at the Somos el Futuro Legislative Conference in Albany. This year's ceremony will be held on March 24.

“I am honored to have been named a rising star by such an important organization as HCNY,” said Malliotakis. “As the daughter of two immigrant parents, it is truly an honor to be among an outstanding group of young professionals selected from the areas of business, education, politics and community service. This inspiring group highlights the tremendous advancements that the Latino community is making in today’s society.”

Assemblywoman Malliotakis’ mother is a Cuban exile of the Castro dictatorship. Her father hails from Greece, and her parents met in New York while in search of the American Dream. Through their hard work, they attained a modest living as owners of a small business in Brooklyn, and their spirit instilled a strong work ethic and sense of ambition in Nicole that has inspired her life in public service.

During her first legislative session, Assemblywoman Malliotakis fought hard for a number of legislative goals, including repealing the MTA Payroll Tax, fighting excessive tolls and protecting Title XX funding for senior centers. Assemblywoman Malliotakis also was named a Top Ranking Pro-Jobs Supporter by The Business Council of New York State and a member of The Capitol newspaper’s 2011 list of 40 Rising Stars Under 40.
