This year’s enacted state budget includes provisions for increased property tax savings for New Yorkers. According to Assemblyman Pete Lopez (R,C,I – Schoharie), the greatest savings will go to middle-class homeowners.
“This is a good start toward bringing relief to property owners in New York who have been saddled with high taxes for years,” said Lopez. “This will help to ease some of that burden.”
Homeowners will receive a mailing notifying them of the application process. The notification is scheduled for mid-August and homeowners will then have until November 30 to apply for the rebate.
Most property owners in the 127th Assembly District can expect rebate checks roughly double last year’s amount. Because of the sliding scale, higher earning property owners can expect reduced benefits. Senior citizens receiving an Enhanced STAR rebate will also see an increase in their exemption.
“While this program provides increased relief to property owners, New Yorkers still pay very high taxes,” Lopez stated. “We need to bring even more savings to the people of New York.”
