Trooper David Brinkerhoff was merely 29 years old when he was fatally shot in the line of duty Wednesday. Brinkerhoff, stationed in Coxsackie, was killed during the hunt for the man that shot Officer Matthew Gombosi on Tuesday in Margaretville.
“I am heartsick at the loss of this fine young man. He was not much older than my son, and I can’t imagine losing him. I would like to offer my deepest condolences to the family and friends of Officer Brinkerhoff for their horrible loss,” said Assemblyman Pete Lopez (R,C,I – Schoharie).
Assigned to the Coxsackie Barracks of Troop F, Trooper Brinkerhoff was an 8-1/2 year veteran of the New York State Police. He is survived by his wife, Barbara, and a seven-month- old daughter.
“Upstate New York has been shaken by a rash of violence against police officers lately. It is disheartening for all of us to see this happening,” Lopez stated. “Together our communities mourn the loss of Officer Brinkerhoff and his other colleagues who have lost their lives in the act of protecting the public.”
