Assemblyman Philip Ramos (D-Central Islip) announced that the governor signed into law legislation he authored making the Bay Shore-Brightwaters Public Library eligible for state financing (Ch. 299 of 2005).
"This historic library has been a rock in the community for over 100 years and in this new century, the demand for its services has increased," Ramos said. "My law will allow the library to receive financing assistance from the state Dormitory Authority so it can continue to effectively serve the community."
The Bay Shore-Brightwaters Public Library was founded on Dec. 19, 1901 and is among the oldest on Long Island. It has managed to grow and change with the community over the years. Ramos’ legislation will allow the library to expand and undergo renovations in a cost-effective manner for local taxpayers.
"Now the Bay Shore-Brightwaters Public Library will be able to take more steps toward providing the latest technology to its users and accommodating the needs of more local residents," Ramos said. "I will continue introducing legislation in the state Assembly to improve the great assets of our community."
