Watkins Glen International Still Running In The Lead For America’s ‘Best NASCAR Track’

O’Mara, Palmesano urge area residents to keep voting online

Watkins Glen, N.Y.—With just over two weeks left in USA Today’s online competition to decide “America’s Best NASCAR Track,” Watkins Glen International (WGI) is still running in 1st Place out of 20 nationwide finalists for the 2015 designation.

As a result, State Senator Tom O’Mara (R,I,C-Big Flats) and Assemblyman Phil Palmesano (R,I,C-Corning), whose legislative districts include WGI, are continuing to encourage area residents to keep voting every day from now until the contest ends on Monday, June 22, 2015.

“Let’s keep voting to put the Finger Lakes region on the national map once again and show our strong support for Watkins Glen International. It’s one of the world’s iconic sporting venues. Across the Southern Tier and Finger Lakes regions, we all take great pride in the fact that 'The Glen' has resonated so powerfully throughout the history of American motorsports for more than six decades. Watkins Glen International is one of New York State's premier destinations, a backbone of our leading tourism industry drawing visitors from across the country, and a driving force for countless charitable, community service and economic development initiatives. Very simply, Watkins Glen International is, by far in our opinion, America’s best NASCAR track."

The local legislators singled out “The Glen” for its unique contributions to American motorsports. WGI events annually generate over $200 million in economic activity across the region and account for more than 2,000 local jobs. The NASCAR Sprint Cup Series weekend in August is one of New York’s largest sporting events and attracts fans from all 50 states, as well as 16 different countries.

To vote in the “Best NASCAR Track in America” poll, visit O’Mara’s Senate website (www.omara.nysenate.gov) or Palmesano on Facebook.

According to USA Today, voters are allowed to vote once every 24 hours from every internet-capable device they have.
