November 21, 2011
Assemblyman Phil Goldfeder (D-Far Rockaway) is participating in the annual Toys for Tots holiday drive and is encouraging local residents to drop off toy donations at the following locations: Where: Rockaway Location - Assemblyman Goldfeder’s community office - 90-16 Rockaway Beach Blvd., Rockaway Beach When: Monday – Friday, 9am – 5pm Where: Ozone Park Location – IHOP - 9801 Liberty Ave., Ozone Park When: Monday – Sunday, 7am – 10pm “In this economy, many Queens residents are finding it difficult to afford the necessities, like food and utilities, let alone toys for the holiday season.” Assemblyman Goldfeder said. “If you’re able to, I encourage you to donate to this great charity and help make our neighborhoods a little bit stronger.” The mission of the Toys for Tots program is to collect new, unwrapped toys and distribute those toys as gifts to needy children in the community. Goldfeder said that new toys, rather than hand-me-downs, deliver a powerful message of hope to children and helps build self-esteem. “The role that local charities play in our communities are more important now than ever before,” Goldfeder said. “By donating to Toys for Tots, you can really make a positive impact on a young child’s life this holiday season.” About Toys for Tots The Toys for Tots Program is run by the United States Marine Corps Reserve and is supported by the Marine Toys for Tots Foundation, a 501(c) (3) not-for-profit charity. Major Bill Hendricks, USMCR founded Toys for Tots in Los Angeles, California in 1947. Major Hendricks and a group of Marine Reservists collected and distributed 5,000 toys during the first campaign.
