Assemblyman Ray Walter (R,C,I-Amherst) recently joined the kindergarten at Maplemere Elementary to celebrate Read Across America Day. The assemblyman read One Fish, Two Fish, Red Fish, Blue Fish to the class. This year, Read Across America Day fell on March 2, which would have marked the 108th birthday for Dr. Seuss.

“As a parent, I believe it is important we take every chance we can to encourage our children to read,” said Walter. “Reading can increase school performance, improve retention and, most important, it’s a fun way to learn about the world around us. I hope our local children have a renewed sense of adventure and wonder as a result of Read Across America.”
