Walter Bill To Expand Fetto Park Passes

Legislation will allow Amherst to utilize park space
June 21, 2012

Legislation sponsored by Assemblyman Raymond Walter (R,C,I-Amherst) has passed both houses of the Legislature, allowing the Town of Amherst to expand Fetto Park. The bill, which was sponsored by Senator Michael Ranzenhofer in the Senate, will allow the town to remove the park designation of land occupied by the Eggertsville Community Center and transfer it to open space located at 4743 Harlem Road adjacent to Fetto Park. Removing the designation will allow the Town of Amherst to continue leasing the structure to the Boys and Girls Club of Buffalo.

“Using park land designation for space occupied by an existing building deprives the community of a chance to enjoy the great outdoors that make us all enjoy living in Western New York so much,” said Walter. “By transferring this designation to the land next to Fetto Park, we are capitalizing on an opportunity to enjoy our natural surroundings while allowing the Boys and Girls Club of Buffalo to continue to have a home in Amherst. I can’t wait to see what the Town of Amherst has in store for this acreage, and I look forward to enjoying this new addition to Fetto Park.”
