Assemblyman Ray Walter (at podium), Assemblyman Kevin Smardz (far left) and Santa Claus join staff and patients at Kaleida Health’s Women and Children’s Hospital for the Christmas in July holiday party.
“The amount of joy that today’s event brought the courageous kids at the Women and Children’s Hospital shows just how successful the Christmas in July Toy Drive has been,” said Walter. “Families and organizations throughout the community stepped up in a big way to support these children, and every single donation was met with a warm, appreciative response. I extend my deepest gratitude to Assemblyman Smardz, Kaleida Health, and everyone who found it in their heart to make a donation and bring smiles to so many faces at the hospital today.”
Walter indicated that throughout the drive, residents, businesses, local sports teams, churches and organizations have been dropping off toys at various locations across Western New York. Presents were given to each patient and more will be distributed throughout the year.
Assemblyman Kevin Smardz said, “I’m delighted to have everyone here today to get into the holiday spirit, even during the hot days of summer, to brighten the day for some amazing kids here at Women and Children’s Hospital. The generosity of people throughout Western New York has been overwhelming. Seeing the smiles on the faces of the children, parents and staff of the Women and Children’s Hospital is really what today is all about. I want to extend a heartfelt thanks to everyone for their participation.”
Tara Young, Child Life Specialist at Women and Children’s Hospital of Buffalo said, “We are so grateful to Assemblymen Ray Walter and Kevin Smardz for spearheading this Christmas in July Toy Drive. These wonderful gifts donated by many in our generous community will certainly be enjoyed by our patients and, thereby, help them through the healing process here at Women and Children's Hospital of Buffalo.”
