Assemblyman Robin Schimminger recently secured funding for the Stephen Sikora American Legion Post in North Tonawanda and the VFW Frontiersmen Post #7545 in the City of Tonawanda through the 2006-07 state budget.
According to Assemblyman Schimminger, “It’s important that these organizations have up-to-date facilities for post and community use. A large portion of their income is based on hall rental and member recreation areas, and the better the shape the facilities are in, the more they will be used.”
The Sikora Post on Payne Avenue in North Tonawanda will receive $20,000 to undertake both interior and exterior renovations of its aging structure, which serves as the post home of more than 600 veterans who served in the U.S. military during times of conflict.
The Frontiersmen VFW Post on Elgin Street in the City of Tonawanda is a newer concrete block building which requires insulation and siding to protect it from the elements. A state grant in the amount of $13,000 has been designated for that purpose.
Schimminger concluded, “These veterans posts are integral parts of community life in the Twin Cities, and their members continue to incorporate service to others in their mission. I’m pleased to be able to help with the needed improvements to these buildings.”
