Influenza is a serious illness that can lead to hospitalization and even death, according to the Centers for Disease Control. Flu season usually begins in early fall and can last until late springtime.
As in the past, Assemblyman Robin Schimminger, D-C-I-Kenmore, will be hosting flu shot clinics in the 140th Assembly District through the Visiting Nursing Association.
“The Flu Prevention Campaign is an easy and cost effective way for seniors and others to maintain good health,” said Assemblyman Schimminger. “The best way to prevent catching the flu is to get vaccinated.”
The Assemblyman will hold outreach sites from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Wednesday, September 4 at Brighton Community Church, 1225 Brighton Road, Town of Tonawanda; and again from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Tuesday, September 17 at the Knights of Columbus, 755 Erie Ave., North Tonawanda. Appointments are required in order to ensure that seniors do not have to stand in long lines and an adequate supply of serum can be ordered. Please call the Assemblyman’s district office at 873-2540 to schedule an appointment.
There is a $35 charge for a flu shot. The following insurance coverage is accepted as payment in full: Medicare Part B, Independent Health, Encompass 65, Univera, Senior Choice, Community Blue and Senior Blue. Proof of medical coverage or payment must be presented at the time of each scheduled appointment.
