Assemblyman Sam Roberts Receives Top Marks for Environmental Voting Record

October 12, 2011
Assemblyman Sam Roberts (D,WF-Syracuse) was recognized today for his strong commitment to protecting the environment. EPL/Environmental Advocates released their annual Voters’ Guide which grades New York State lawmakers according to their votes on bills that could help or harm the environment. Roberts received the highest possible grade.

“I’m committed to ensuring Central New York has a strong voice in Albany,” Roberts said. “And I’ll make sure the fight for a clean and safe environment remains steadfast. It’s important that we do what we can now in order to preserve our environment for the future.”

The preservation of the environment and green initiatives has been a priority for Assemblyman Roberts. He supported legislation in conjunction with the EPL/Environmental Advocates values, including bills that would:

  • require permits for interbasin diversions of water and approval of modification to existing systems (Ch. 401 of 2011);
  • suspend hydraulic fracturing for the extraction of natural gas or oil and suspend issuance of new permits for such drilling (A.7400);
  • establish greenhouse-gas limits and a greenhouse-gas reporting system (A.5346); and
  • restrict the use of decabromodiphenyl ether in certain products to protect environmental and public health (A.5798).

“I look forward to continuing efforts in the Assembly and working to make sure New York State has the proper environmental guidelines and policies in place to maintain a healthy quality of life for our citizens,” Roberts said.
