Chair, Real Property Taxation Committee
Welcome and thank you for accessing my New York State Assembly Web Page. Here I will post information about the work I do, both in Albany and in the communities I represent, to pass laws designed to build a strong, healthy and vibrant New York. You can also find contact information for my offices in Albany and Ossining.
I am truly grateful for your support, which is what allows me to serve you everyday. During these economic hard times, we certainly have our work cut out for us as we evaluate legislation and budgets and try to prioritize what we are able to accomplish. I am working hard on a number of issues I think are critical to maintaining the quality of life we have come to enjoy in our great state and in my assembly district.
Specifically, I have been focusing on ways to lower property taxes as well as make them more equitable throughout the state. Please look for additional information on the web page for the Assembly Committee on Real Property Taxation which I chair. Also, I have been focusing on ways that municipalities, counties and school districts can share and consolidate back office operations to become leaner and more efficient in an effort to save tax dollars.
You can access information here from some of the forums I have hosted, and find information about my upcoming Television Shows and Special Events, such as town meetings, citizens’ group meetings, and roundtable discussions with elected officials and professionals. I invite you to become more involved by attending and contributing to the dialogue with your own thoughts and suggestions.
Critical to the current and future success of New York is keeping our communities and our children smart, healthy and safe. I have been working hard to make sure our children have healthy food choices in school, remain tobacco-free, and become safe, responsible drivers.
I also know how important it is to keep our air and water clean for current and future generations. That is why I have put forth legislation to encourage energy efficiency. Click here to learn more about how you can help support improved environmental initiatives.
Government reform has been a focus of mine for many years. We need to ensure that decisions do not get made by the proverbial “three men in a room.” We also need to look for efficiency and equity in government, which is why I am recommending modernizing our legislation and the establishment of an independent budget office. Election law is critical to making sure every one of our votes is counted, and making sure we do so in the most efficient, expedient and fair way we can. I have worked hard to make sure our voting machines have paper back ups and that voting takes place when and where it makes the most sense for our budgets.
My priority in this legislative session is to strike a careful balance between dealing with the state budget, curtailing expenditures and making some difficult decisions, while ensuring we protect the services, environment, and excellent resources in the most efficient way possible. Please feel free to contact me at either of the locations below if you have any questions, comments or suggestions. I hope you find my web page useful. I look forward to hearing from you soon.
Sincerely,
Sandy Galef
