Reminder to Claim New State Child Tax Credit
March 1, 2007
Taxpayers are reminded that this is the first time that they can claim the Empire State Child Credit when filing their New York State tax returns this year. To qualify for this new state tax credit, you must be a New York State resident for a full year, must claim a federal child tax credit or meet certain income thresholds, and your children must have been at least 4 and less than 17 on December 31, 2006.
New York families can receive up to $330 in state tax credits for each qualifying child.
To apply, fill out form IT-213 and submit it with your state income tax return. All state tax forms, including IT-213, can be downloaded from www.tax.state.ny.us/forms/form_number_order_au_ct.htm
If you have already filed your tax return, fill out IT-213 and mail the form by itself to:
State Processing Center
PO Box 61000
Albany, NY 12261-0001.
Assemblywoman Galef stated: “It is so important that families save as much in taxes as they can and make sure that they take this new tax credit initiated by the state as part of a package of wide-ranging tax cuts last year. Please be sure to call my office if there are questions at 914-941-1111.”
