“Dear Sandy” with Assemblywoman Sandy Galef Explores Riding the Rails and Ferries in New York

April 8, 2009
Assemblywoman Sandy Galef discusses New York transit with President of Metro-North Howard Permut.
Assemblywoman Sandy Galef hosts Howard Permut, the newest President of Metro-North, on her cable television show “Dear Sandy” to talk about improvements the organization has made under his direction. In the last year alone, Mr. Permut points to an exponential growth in Metro-North ridership. However, MTA funding in the state government remains a contentious issue, after it asked for more than a billion dollars from New York State this year.

In addition to budgetary concerns, Assemblywoman Galef and Mr. Permut discuss the changes Metro-North has made in its 25 year history as well as many improvements that are on-going. Riders may have noticed construction at many Metro-North stations, including the Ossining and Scarborough stations and construction will start with a new ferry dock project in Ossining. The Assemblywoman and Mr. Permut also talk about the possibility of a station on the West Side of Manhattan.
