Assemblywoman Galef Hosts Two Upcoming Forums for Taxpayers
Assemblywoman Sandy Galef will host two forums in October with a view toward lessening the burden placed on New York taxpayers and making taxation more equitable throughout the state. One forum will focus on local government and school district consolidation, and another will be about property assessment
The first forum will be held on Wednesday, October 7, 2009 from 7:30 – 9 pm at Croton Village Hall.* Assemblywoman Galef will host Executive Director of New York State Office of Real Property Services Lee Kyriacou to discuss "The Ups and Downs of Real Property Assessment." Community members are encouraged to attend this special event to learn about the advantages of regular assessments and finding ways to develop fairer taxation.
The second forum will take place on Thursday, October 15, 2009 from 7:30 – 9 pm at Croton Village Hall.* New York State Attorney General Cuomo’s Legislative Policy Advisor Dr. James Malatras, New York State Education Department’s Coordinator for Educational Management Services Dr. Deborah Cunningham and former Executive Director of the State Commission on Local Government Efficiency and Competitiveness John Clarkson will join Assemblywoman Galef to talk about ways to consolidate local governments and school districts. Guests can learn the "How-To’s of Local Government and School Consolidation" and how a new law allows community members to initiate changes in their own municipalities and districts.
"I am thrilled to be hosting these forums in October. This is an opportunity for community members to really find out about how they can make changes in their own governmental structures and what avenues there are to reduce the overall tax burden. I know my panelists will have invaluable information to disseminate to my constituents and other attendees. I hope these discussions will motivate the public to go out and advocate for more equitable taxation in New York as well as sharing and consolidating services in our governmental and educational entities," said Galef.
