Galef Hosts NYS Education Commissioner at Her 2010 Education Forum

Commissioner Steiner to discuss timely education issues and answer questions from public

Assemblywoman Sandy Galef has invited the public to attend her education forum on Thursday, April 29th from 7-9:00 pm at Cortlandt Town Hall, 1 Heady Street, Cortlandt Manor. New York State Education Commissioner Dr. David M. Steiner will serve as the speaker for the forum where he will discuss goals and priorities for New York State Education, changes that are in the works for education standards and testing, the federal “Race to the Top” competition, sharing and consolidation of schools and services, mandate relief and special education and early childhood education.

“Education is one of our primary responsibilities in the state. I am thrilled that the new commissioner is taking the time to come to my Assembly District to field questions and address the ideas and concerns of my constituents. This is a great opportunity to discuss so many important topics and I look forward to seeing education professionals as well as parents and the general public at this forum,” said Assemblywoman Galef.

Many local groups are co-sponsoring the forum, including Putnam/Northern Westchester BOCES, school districts including Croton-Harmon, Carmel, Garrison, Ossining, and Peekskill as well as the Westchester Putnam School Boards Association, Westchester East Putnam Region PTA, Pleasantville Special Education PTA, League of Women Voters of Westchester, Westchester County Association, Business Council of Westchester, and the New York Association of School Psychologists.
