Assemblywoman Sandy Galef has announced that her 2011 Senior Forum will be held on Thursday, July 7, 2011, from 9 am- 12 noon at Cortlandt Town Hall, 1 Heady Street, Cortlandt Manor. The Senior Forum is sponsored by Hudson Valley Hospital Center, who is providing breakfast for the seniors who attend. This year’s forum will spotlight a variety of issues that affect the residents of the 90th Assembly District including consumer fraud, disaster preparedness, and federal proposals that could alter Medicare.

The first speaker of the forum is Gary Brown, from the NYS Attorney General’s Regional Office in Westchester, who will inform attendees of the latest scams affecting seniors and steps they should take to protect themselves. Andrea Grimaldi-Grafer, of the Red Cross of Westchester, will share her knowledge on how seniors can be better prepared for any sort of natural or man-made disaster that could affect our area. Fred Riccardi, of the Medicare Rights Center, will talk about how the current federal proposals to change Medicare could affect the forum attendees. Rachel Harris, a Clinical Nutrition Manager at Hudson Valley Hospital Center, will be discussing food alternatives that can help seniors’ live healthier lives. There will also be a musical performance by Michelle LeBlanc, a constituent from Putnam Valley.

“I am looking forward to my annual Senior Forum and learning from these insightful speakers. These are topics that affect all seniors in my district. It will be a very informative morning and I encourage all those interested in these important topics to attend,” said Galef.

In addition, many local senior groups co-sponsor the Senior Forum. The co-sponsors are: Buchanan Senior Citizens, Cortlandt Seniors, Crompond Seniors, Croton Senior Citizens, Nor-Cort Seniors, Ossining Senior Citizens, Peekskill Senior Citizens’ Club, Putnam Valley Seniors, Putnam County Office for the Aging, and Verplanck Seniors.
