May 23, 2012

State Assemblywoman Sandy Galef invites the public to join her on, Thursday, June 7th from 7-9pm at the Cortlandt Town Hall, 1 Heady Street, Cortlandt Manor, to meet with NYS Commissioner of Taxation and Finance Thomas H. Mattox to discuss taxation, tax laws, and to ask questions about important issues that impact individuals and business owners in New York State.

Topics to be discussed include: learning about the recent changes to tax rates and programs in New York State, the Department’s focus on compliance through more effective taxpayer services, STAR exemptions, and property assessments throughout New York State. The commissioner will also field questions from the audience during the forum.

Thomas H. Mattox, the New York State Commissioner of Taxation and Finance, will speak and answer questions concerning taxation and its impacts on those living in New York State. Commissioner Mattox has served in his position since January 2011. The Department of Taxation and Finance recently merged with the Office of Real Property Services in order to consolidate all tax related matters in New York State into one department.

“I’m so pleased that Commissioner Mattox will be joining me at my upcoming forum. I hope that many of my constituents will join this discussion to understand and ask questions about the recent changes to New York State tax law and the actions of the Department. I think it is important that people come out to learn about what is happening on this front in Albany, and equally important that my constituents inform the Commissioner about issues here, in our district,” concluded Galef.
