Assemblywoman Galef Highlights Local Farmers Markets on her “Dear Sandy” TV Show

Assemblywoman Sandy Galef hosts Ossining resident Miriam Haas, of Community Markets, and Croton resident Susan O’Keefe, from Baked by Susan, on her television show, “Dear Sandy.” Galef, Haas, and O’Keefe discuss the farmers markets of New York, and how they provide healthier food as well as helping the economy and environment of the state.

Farmers markets, which have recently grown in popularity in this area, are a more direct link from the producers of food to the consumers, allowing citizens to buy food directly from the growers. This food is grown closer to home, saving precious resources on the packaging and transport of food, as well as preventing the use of chemical preservatives in food. They allow consumers to help their neighbors, local farmers. Haas and O’Keefe also detail the variety of fresh and baked goods available at a market.

“Miriam and Susan provide a wonderful portrayal of the positive aspects of farmers markets,” Galef said. “Farmers markets provide an avenue to fresh and tasty produce, and now we can all enjoy many of these markets close to home.”
