June 29, 2012
Assemblywoman Galef featured a panel of local government officials to discuss what local governments have been doing to share and consolidate services. From L-R, Town Supervisor Shea, Town Supervisor Borgia, Assemblywoman Galef, Judge Scheinkman, and County Executive Eldridge.
Assemblywoman Sandy Galef hosted a forum on June 9th dedicated to consolidating services in municipalities as a measure to save money in county and local governments. The forum featured four distinguished guests, Alan D. Scheinkman, NYS Administrative Judge, 9th Judicial District, Paul Eldridge, Putnam County Executive, Catherine Borgia, Town Supervisor of Ossining, and Richard Shea, Town Supervisor of Philipstown.

The forum airs as a one hour special. The airing includes highlights on the efforts of municipalities to share services in order to save money and prevent further tax raises for their residents. Judge Alan Scheinkman discussed measures to decrease expenses, due to paying court and police employees overtime on weekends and late nights, through some consolidation at the county level. Paul Eldridge summarized the efforts Putnam County is making to save money through the privatizing and outsourcing of services. Catherine Borgia explained the current successes and obstacles of consolidating the Town and Village of Ossining Courts. Richard Shea outlined the different intermunicipal agreements being worked on in Philipstown.

“Sharing services is an important way for local and county governments to save money,” said Galef. “I encourage everyone to watch this forum on TV to get ideas to bring back to their own municipalities and counties.”
